Sensei Edson Carvalho, 5th DAN was born in the city of Salvador Bahia, Brazil.
Residing above of the dojo of the Itapagipano Judo Club, Edson Carvalho was practically born into the world of Martial
Arts.
Training since the age of four and under the supervision of Sensei Kazuo Yoshida, the seed of a true champion was planted.
While conquering numerous titles in his own state of Bahia, Master Edson Carvalho refined his teaching skills and acted
as a teacher's assistant and instructor since the age of 14. He absorbed essential knowledge from great names such as Sensei
Hugo Ripardo, Yamamoto, Shigueto Yamazaki Sr., Mitiharo Sogabe, Ono, Matsuda and the renowned Ysao Okano.
He arrived in Rio de Janeiro in 1989 and met the famous, Professor Mehdi, with whom he further refined his knowledge in
both technique, and didactic. While in Rio, he competed in Judo competitions, representing Club Flamengo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
tournaments representing Carlson Gracie Sr.
In 1992 he won the 1992 Brazilian championships in Judo as well as the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Mundials in his weight and
absolute divisions.
Carrying out earnest and unforgettable bouts, Edson Carvalho offered an offensive and diverse style of fighting. Combining
attacks of projection throws along with intense ground fighting which resulted in a genuine challenge to adversaries under
any circumstance. Not limiting his skills to only ground techniques, and by beating his opponents both standing up and on
the mat was a consequence of his classic training.
Edson Carvalho has traveled across the world, competing, teaching and training in numerous different international dojos.
His skills and teachings are sought after by many competitors, law enforcement, and athletes worldwide.
