NEWS

3/20/05 - CONGRADULATIONS TO OUR PATERSON TEAMMATES ON THEIR WINS AT THE NAGA WORLDS.

Competing from Paterson:

Dan Otero took 1st place in his No-Gi division, winning all of his fights on points.

Jae Lee fought in the Gi division and took 2nd place.  Jae was just promoted to Blue Belt two weeks ago so this win is his first (of many we hope) as a blue.

Big Mike Venezia (no email for Mike) fought No-Gi and took 2nd place in his division.

Congratulations to Dan and Mike for their first tournament wins.

Congratulations to Jae for his first win as a blue belt.

3/12/05 - CONGRATULATIONS GARY MANGARELL

Gary Mangarell competed at the NAGA World Championships on 3/12/05.  This was his first ever submission tournament and he did very well.  He fought No-Gi and took 2nd place in his division.

Gary had 3 matches, winning one of his matches via choke.  This is a very impressive win for Gary considering that he has only been training Jiu Jitsu for less them a month.

2/26/05 - CONGRATULATIONS DAVID TRAPANESE AND TINH TUPY!!!!!

David and Tinh both competed in Saturday's Grappler's Quest, Beast from the East Tournament.  Both are relatively new to our team and train at Avon, several times per week.

David started training at Avon in October and decided to compete in a No-Gi Beginners Division at the tournament.  David had 4 fights and took 2nd Place in his division.

Tinh came to Avon in November, on a recommendation from David.  Tinh also fought in a No-Gi Beginners Division on Saturday.  Tinh had a bye on the first round, but still fought 3 fights to capture 1st Place in his division.

Both teammates have been training hard, several times a week, including Open Mat Saturdays where they get the chance to practice what they have learned during the week.  Their hard training shows in their tournament wins.

Congratulations to both David and Tinh on an outstanding showing for their first tournament.
